How Modifiable Factors in Diabetic Patients are related to the Risk of Lead Investigator: Haiyan Qu Institution : University of Alabama at Birmingham E-Mail : hyqu@uab.edu Proposal ID : 1221 Proposal Description: Specific Aim 1: To ascertain the relation between glycemic control and the risk of cognitive impairment Hypothesis 1: A better glycemic control is related to a lower risk of cognitive impairment Specific Aim 2: To investigate if BMI, blood pressure or blood lipids are related to the risk of cognitive impairment Hypothesis 2: The risk of cognitive impairment is related to BMI, blood pressure or blood lipids. Specific Aim 3: To determine how different medications affect the risk of cognitive impairment Hypothesis 3: The risk of cognitive impairment is related to medications including hypoglycemic agents, statins and insulin treatment.
